ProvenanceThe two seducers are devilish looking older men with grotesque facial features (i.e. hooked noses and missing teeth), walking side-by-side. They claim that younger girls only have their eyes on men who have reached their age. Daumier chastises these older men as lustful individuals, who may or may not have partners, and seek pleasures by roaming the streets like flaneurs. Although this is not a representation of the story of Susanna and the Elders, one is tempted to draw links between the two male figures in Daumier’s lithograph and the two elder men described in the Book of Daniel.
