ProvenanceOne does not need much context to grasp the humor of this comical scene. A man is stuck between two chariots that clasp him at his waist. The agony he experiences is rendered evident through his painful expression. Like in the other 51 images that form part of the Emotions Parisiennes series, Daumier is here interested in the emotional reaction of his fellow French citizens when they are placed in odd situations.
