ProvenancePersonal album of an unnamed soldier. Photographs document basic training, barracks life (including a snowball fight while in dress uniform) and some bomb damage in France (including a downed RAF Lancaster). The bulk of photographs record his MG battalion's transfer by rail over the Brennerpass to Italy and journey by ship via Naples to North Africa. Many train views are included. Of particular note are images of Wehrmacht and Italian soldiers joking together and Italian warships in harbour. Album concludes with a few photographs of North Africa and a grave. The photographer is most likely responsible for the pre-war family album A12596_1.
