ProvenanceWW2 German album of an infantryman during the Battle of France, 1940. The photographer has a very good eye for the dramatic and seemingly a fascination with wreckage, or perhaps this was just the main motif during his route of march. There are several excellent pages of photos showing amongst other things, downed British aircraft, destroyed French tanks and also knocked out German tanks which are rare to see either because the Germans recovered them so quickly or because the photographers were reluctant to photograph their defeats. Also a good photograph from the inside of a downed bomber (page 9). Following the Western Campaign the photographer is transferred to Greece where he enjoys mountain climbing and seemingly a different pace of life.
