ProvenanceClaude Bailliot (1771-1836) was an active participant in the fall of Charles X. He was a deputy and Peer of France under Louis-Philippe’s reign. Like the other full-length portraits Daumier made of politicians, the artist chose to highlight the facial features of Bailliot in this print. His eyes are shut and he frowns at something that is off the picture plane.
