ProvenanceGerman WW2 Russia. Album by an unknown Wehrmacht soldier, possibly serving in Schtz.Rgt.64. Photographs dramatically capture the opening of Operation Barbarossa the invasion of Russia. Destroyed and captured equipment, overrun Soviet positions, live fire, German and Russian tanks, captured bunker and burning village houses, field graves, Russian POWs looking fearful. Of note are images of a captured boy soldier, damaged Communist statues, relaxing Russian peasants and the enthusastic welcome of German forces in an unidentified city. Album concludes with its creator - wearing round spectacles - recovering from frostbite
