ProvenanceAlbum of an unnamed British serviceman documenting two post-war years in England (Leicester) and Palestine/Trans-jordan. UK photographs are of his sons (?), friends and campaigning in the 1945 General Election for Harold Nicolson, diplomat and husband of Vita Sackville-West. Most of the album records an official UK visit to Trans-jordan and a large military parade, perhaps to mark Jordan's gaining of independence in 1946 and in the presence of the emir. Of interest are photographs of mounted brigades (on horses and camels) and tourist snapshots of Petra (Al Khazneh, amphitheatre and tombs)
