ProvenanceUS album, Italy. Foggia area. The city of Foggia was a hub for Axis transport and had an important airfield consequently it was heavily bombed causing horrendous casualties amongst the unprotected civilian inhabitants. Figures include a third of the population being killed.
After Italy switched sides and the area fell into Allied hands a whole complex of airfield grew up around the city with many of the people stationed there living in tents.
The album includes some sightseeing in Rome, some good shots of wrecked Allied bombers and burning aircraft as well as a few interesting photos showing Nose Art and Mission Count.
B-24 Liberator bombers.
